ITS ALIVE! The blog has been a bit neglected. I had started a post around the holidays… now it’s almost the end of January. Whoops.
Well where to begin? The bike trip ended, but the adventure never stopped this fall. Since this IS a bike blog, I’ll try to cover a few of the bike trips I’ve managed to squeeze in between the hours of coding for the new business venture. After my time back in the midwest I caught a flight to San Francisco where I’ve partnered with my good friend and old college roommate, Andrew Schirmer, to launch a new booking a transit company in the bay area called Tahoe Tech Bus. We’re currently focusing on bringing tech employees in SF to the Tahoe. Things are going pretty well and I’ve learned more than I ever hope about web development.
I dug back through my photos. A quick summary of the fall perhaps?
My first weekend in SF started with a fury of touring resorts in the Tahoe area. Pretty good views I’d say.
We got comped rooms… single King beds. I wonder if Andrew purposely requested them?
Back in SF, can’t beat our location in SF. No shortage of good pizza nearby. The iphone took some damage on the tour… It was finally replaced.Representing the company on Halloween.Lots of work happens at the kitchen table.Dom came to town to help us at a trade show. Luckily our office was prepared for the temporary expansion. Thanks for rocking our social media Dom!The SF giants won the World Series… that was quite the ordeal.A typical evening… I think this was on Halloween night. The US bike tour might have ended, but the coffee filter never got a break.SF is great for meetup groups. We’ve been to a few meetups at the very company we are using to build our website. No shortage of techies around here…
Andrew got his second monitor and the “cave code” was born.
Ok wait a second. This is bradgoesbiking.com, not bradgoescoding.com. Where are the bikes you say? Well don’t you worry, I did buy a bike. A very cheap craigslist one at that. Nonetheless, it has done the job. I’ve tried to sneak in some small adventures on the weekends. My tour bike was left at my sister’s place in Washington. Recently she just moved to Grand Junction. I’d rather not pay to fly it back, so perhaps a spring tour from Junction to Tahoe is in order? My Yeti is there too! Time to sell some bikes.
$150. Here it is in all it’s glory.Even without loaded panniers, the hills in SF provide quite the challenge.
Lombard street is way more fun on a bike!Full House house?
If your looking for an easy but great ride in the bay area, the golden gate is a must!Once across checkout the views from Battery Spencer.
From the bridge / Batter Spencer, head west toward Rodeo Cove.To my friend Eric… I almost made it to a lighthouse! But…This happened. You shall not pass.
Rodeo Beach
Pause the biking for code…And more code.Website 0.99 launch day!We got some riding in with Greg Howe in Tahoe before the snow hit. Looking forward to plenty hitting trails again in the spring!
Then the holidays approached. And with it so came SantaCon.Hard to beat having great coffee right next door. Before heading home for the holidays I got a ride into Sausalito. Found some great coffee here as well.
Oh man! I almost forgot. Andrew lost a bike. Here he is… sulking with his missing bike blues.Yep. Left it on the bus. 3 hours later we tracked it down! Then returned it to it’s rightful owner at the Ritchey Headquarters. Pretty cool place.Back in the midwest I got to catch up with friends in WI and IL. A trip to Madison wouldn’t be complete without board games with Lavilla and Travis. Then down to Rockford to help with Ramp Pro. Coming soon. Sorry to those I missed on my short visit.Luckily I got my fill of snow while I was home.Didn’t keep me off the bike though!
The cat’s not a fan of the snow…but the Trek doesn’t mind.Ahhhh. Tough to beat that cold midwest air.The cat was much happier indoors… 1 inch from your face.
Between eating cookies and hanging out with family, I got some hiking in up in Northern MN. Grandpa’s horses are just as huge as ever.
Despite minimal snow we still got a sleigh ride in!
Cold Tonka? The Ryan’s got together over New Years. Hey Krista… who won in pounce???
No shortage of food, drinks, laughs, and fun.Holiday fun can wipe you out!
Alas, time at home with friends and family passed and I was back in California before long. Back to shorts, sandals, big hills, and sunshine.
But… I’m enjoying it while it lasts. At the end of the month we’ll be moving to Tahoe. I don’t think it will be sooooo bad 😉 4 blocks from the beach… looking forward to our morning standup paddle board meetings. Board meetings? Get it? Pun intended… Andrew.
Well that’s my quick recap from Fall 2014 through today. Wishing everyone a great 2015! If you’re traveling through the bay area give me a shout! I’ll be making an effort to dust off the blog a bit more frequently.
Nice post! Can’t wait til we get to dust off your “storage bikes” 🙂 you will be in great clombing shape after riding those hills! hopefully I will get a chance to come say hi out there! Miss you!
I love this! Such a great way to catch up with you. I love the photo blog. So fun! These photos are fantastic too! I miss SF! Enjoy it and the cabin. Between cycling and coding, you’ve been busy, it’s a good life you’re living these past several months,
Still striking out with the lighthouse? After almost a year?!?
So before you move to Tahoe, try to head about two hours south to Monterey. I was stationed there twice, for about a year each time, at the Presidio of Monterey. Lovely area. Best of luck with the business venture!
Thanks for the update. Tahoe should be an excellent place for your bike, snowboard and ski adventures. I don’t think you will want to train for a triathlon in the lake though. At least, not till July.
